SALMON ALSO EXPLAINS HOW AT SOME POINT THESE COMPARISONS BECAME SIMPLE PASTICHES OR COPIES OF ROMAN ARCHITECTURE. WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ABOUT USING THE PAST AS INSPIRATION IN SUCH A LITERAL WAY?
In the classical times it was quite common to see architects try to replicate other exemplary architecture. This was because at tha time it wasn't perceived as plagiarism. Also their lack of technological advancement mad this common. The past is a good inspiration for works. Present day architecture does not encourage the direct copying of works because of diversity. So it is advisable to study how these buildings work but not copy their basic form.

RESEARCH ARKWRIGHT BUILDING. WHO BUILT IT? WHEN? FOR WHAT PURPOSE? HOW ABOUT THE NEW RENOVATION? HAS IT CHANGED THE BUILDING OR HAS IT TRIED TO KEEP IT IN ITS ORIGINAL STATE?
The Arkwright building was built by the Nottingham cope ration. It has a gothic design. It was built in the late 1870s. It was originally meant to serve as a library, museum and university. It previously had 6 statues of valued science figured. Only 4 of these statues stand due to a bomb that hit (Luftwaffe) in 1941. The west of the building was also destroyed due to the bomb. It was built in a Neo-gothic style. An additional building was added from 1956 to 1968 when it was a technical college. Now it serves as the Nottingham trent university. Being a listed building renovating it was quite difficult because all the elements had to kept. This is one of the reasons the building has no ramps. This was done by using inconspicuous engineering methods and forms that have been engineered to look like they were from that era. The need flooring and the other installations are very basic so they do not remove the attention from the building. It also uses subtle glass. This means that the building still looks like its original state and the modern elements of it do not prevent its aesthetic from being shown.
